FALMOUTH—Historical Character Reenactor Jessa Piaia will present a first-person portrayal of pioneer aviatrix Amelia Earhart in “Meet Amelia Earhart: First Lady of the Air” at Falmouth Museums on the Green on Sunday, September 23, at 2:00 pm. The 45-minute program, appropriate for audiences ages 10 and up, will be followed by an informal Q&A session. Earhart is acclaimed as the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932. She was also part of the historic 1928 “Friendship” trans-Atlantic flight which departed from Jeffery’s Yacht Club in East Boston Harbor. Earhart worked as a social worker at the Denison House in downtown Boston at the time. The famous aviatrix also authored three books and designed a sturdy luggage line and clothing line for “women who live actively.” Piaia studied performance at London’s Oval House Theatre and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Her one-woman shows are known for using extensive research, compelling writing, and artistry to reveal the accomplishments, struggles and contributions of women to American history. In 1994 she portrayed Susan B. Anthony on an eleven-site state tour. The event is made possible, in part, by a grant from Mass Humanities. Admission is $15.
