Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network (CapeCodCAN), an organization providing inclusive programs in the performing and visual arts for teens and adults of all abilities, is pleased to unveil its new public art installation at the Barnstable Municipal Airport on Tuesday, September 18th at 10:30AM. “The Victura” is a 6 foot by 4 foot, multi-media bas relief of John F Kennedy’s beloved sailboat, recently restored and on exhibit at the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. “The Victura” was designed and created by CapeCodCAN Mosaic Director and local artist, Cris Reverdy in partnership with CapeCodCAN Art Director Donna Rockwell and over 100 CapeCodCAN artist members from 10 Cape wide agencies and programs to include LIFE, Habilitation Assistance Corporation, Community Connections, Inc., Riverview, CORD, The May Center, CORD, Transition Centers, Inc, Riverview and The Club of Falmouth. The sculpture was conceived in honor of President Kennedy’s 100th Birthday and the Kennedy family’s commitment to recognizing the value and talents of people of all abilities through the programs they founded, VSA Massachusetts, Best Buddies and Special Olympics, as well as legislation enacted such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, introduced by Senator Ted Kennedy. The Victura bas relief panel is the final project of the year-long “On the Move” visual art curriculum which also featured original art and craft pieces, exhibited at the HyArts Shanties in June 2018. The “On the Move” curriculum included year-long visual art classes taught within the day programs of our partnering agencies and in the community by local artist educators with a focus on motion, travel and movement. “The Victura” will be installed in the main terminal of the Barnstable Municipal Airport. It is sponsored in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cape Cod Foundation, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and CARE for the Cape and Islands. Support was also provided by the JFK Museum in Hyannis and Cotuit Center for the Arts. Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network is an independent organization under the Cotuit Center for the Arts umbrella.
